About Pickleball

Since 1965

Who knew how far this paddlesport would go when Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum tried to relieve the boredom their families were experiencing one day. Trying to play badminton, they realized there was a shortage of equipment for everyone to play with. So the improvisation began! Switching rackets for ping-pong paddles and using a perforated plastic ball the game was on.

Using badminton as a basis for the rules, but wanting to create a fair game that the entire family could enjoy, they created Pickleball. Now, the name has several stories behind it, but I like the one where it came from the Pritchard’s cocker spaniel, “Pickles”, who kept running off with the ball whenever it landed off court.

The sport of Pickleball is exploding in popularity around the world. Since 2010 the places available to play have more than doubled. Many tennis court venues have been transformed to permit Pickleballers to play.

Pickleball is a mish mash of ping pong, badminton, and tennis. The rules are simple. Pickleball is definitely a sport created for all ages and skill levels. Using paddles and a “whiffle ball” the game takes place on a court smaller than the traditional tennis courts. The most common game is doubles, although many people do play singles — but that is a lot more work!

Progreso Pickleball was created because we wanted to experience the joy of playing Pickleball in our own backyard. We now have a private court in our backyard area where our guests and members are able to play throughout the day. Evening times are available to avoid the scorching heat of the day.
We look forward to meeting you and playing together in our backyard!

Where have the children gone to play…
