etiquette

be nice, have fun, don’t be a dink!

1. PLEASE — Do not overplay your current physical condition. Age, experience, physical condition and athletic ability will impact the level of your game. Don’t try to make plays beyond your abilities. Know your exercise limits and be sure to tell co-players what they are. If you have a history of heart problems, back pain, tennis elbow, breathing problems, etc. be sure you have any necessary equipment or medicines at hand.

2. HYDRATE – drink lots of water in advance and during, it is hot out there.

3. Good sportsmanship is the rule.

4. Stretch and if possible, warm up before playing your match. Let’s keep injuries to a minimum.

5. Do not place anything on the playing surface, our space is limited and we do not want you to trip on anything.

6. If you see someone who displays signs of dizziness, weakness, or lack of concentration, please keep an eye on them. Hydration is key in this climate.

7. Never play on a wet court. They are extremely dangerous.

8. If the ball is out and it’s on your side of the court call it out loudly and raise your arms to indicate it is out. If it is close, giver the benefit to your opponent. Put your arms down with the palm flat to indicate it is in. If you are unsure, IT IS IN!

9. Don’t dive for balls… do we need to say this twice?

10. If anything falls on the court, please remove it immediately. Do not leave coconuts or balls lying around.

11. Wear proper tennis (court) shoes. Do not wear black soled shoes ever on our court. Running shoes are not advised for court play.

12. Wear appropriate clothing for the group you are with.

13. Control your language. Swearing or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. Ever.

14. Pickleball is for many a fun social engagement. Keep in mind that some games will be more fun and less competitive.

15. If you step into the kitchen on a volley or if your partner does, call it on yourself. Be cautious to call kitchen and foot shots on your opponents — let them call the faults on themselves.

16. Never ask spectators or accept line calls from them.

17. Be a great partner, consider your partner’s goals and abilities. Stay positive. Communicate.

18. At the end of each game, tap the bottom of your paddles and find something positive to say to the other team at the net. Don’t leave a game without thanking the other team.
